This company cares nothing for the welfare of its staff or potential customers.
It is being run with bully boy tactics, the result is certainly not a pleasant experience for anyone who crosses the csl threshold.
-The Guvnor (ex Csl employee)
Take note people… CSL ARE NOT THE SOFA SPECIALISTS.
I think COMPULSIVE SHADY LIARS springs to mind…
They are an absolute joke and I will NEVER deal with them again and would urge anyone considering dealing with this company to stay away, go elsewhere!
-Mrs H
I spoke to customer services (who obviously have problems living up to their job title) to ask what option were. I got nowhere fast.
CSL clearly think that people won’t bother with court action and will go away if they are ignored for long enough.
what a waste of £2500 cheap nasty crap leather do not buy from csl you can get the same quality from Argos for £450
I found their attitudes rude and uncaring, whatever happened to customer care and aftercare?
I suggest you find another sofa from elswhere, the Coco will let you down, the interiors will flatten and the fabric will pill.
i ended up waiting almost a year in all for my suite and within a few months it looked like it was years old

August 14th, 2010Sorry Fred
Pressed submit button by accident before i had finished.
Csl said they want £47 to come out to look at the suite even though is not 12 months old. Wife swore, was ask if she would not do so by the bloke on the other end of the line,as he was trying to be helpful (like hell he was).
Have got a ref number from trading standard, and have been in touch with Blackhorse who were very helpful The 12 months intrest free credit is due for payment on the 27th of Aug.the money is in place to pay it but not sure what to do as i do not want csl to ride roughshod over us,as money does come easy when you are O A Ps

August 15th, 2010bought a leather corner suite and after sitting on it for a couple of nights the fabric has stretched and wrinkled. also the seat cushions are all a different thickness.
phoned customer service and they sent someone round to look at it. he informed me that company policy is that they do not do anything about leather stretching unless you can grab leather from seat cushion and raise it to the level of the top of the back cushion!!
as for thickness of seat cushions he said they fitted the standards set and that the ones in the showroom were the same.
it is just overpriced rubbish

August 15th, 2010Hi Caroline,
Thanks for your letter and contribution to the CSL Sofas complaints website, I am so sorry that you have joined the unhappy band of conned CSL customers, but in your case you’ve found out very quickly that what you’ve bought is nothing short of rubbish……. at an inflated ‘rip off’ price.
Of course CSL come up with all these ‘stock answers’ – they’ve had plenty of time to script them, rehearse them and try them out on many CSL customers over the years they’ve been spreading like some new disease around the streets and towns of the North West….
You have to put your foot down and get at them, basically look up what your rights are, there is a direct link to Consumer Services on the right of this page, though they will probably refer you to Trading Standards – I’ll leave you to enjoy that experience…. which will probably turn out to be totally useless and boring.
If you need any further help in total confidence so CSL don’t know what you or us are up to next – simpy write in again and ask for Fred direct….
Regards and best wishes…..yes it is overpriced rubbish!… and just for the sake of having your eyes opened – click on the link to Saxon Leather and do a price comparison between what you’ve got and REAL QUALITY MANUFACTURING AND AT A PROPER PRICE !… NOT INFLATED RUBBISH – REDUCED IN A SALE !

August 19th, 2010Hiyah Fred,
We ordered the Derwent suite on 4th. May 2010, we entered into the contract only because the sales consultant assured us it was foam in the seats, arms and lumbar area’s which we need because we suffer from back problems. We have since been told that is untrue it is simply the useless fibre in the back & arms.
They also gave us a delivery date for 10th August and then sent 2 e-mails to say it was coming on 2nd. August. Then we received a telephone call to say it would’nt be here until end of August. I have had so many phone calls because i have asked for my deposit to be refunded as we think they are in breach of contract with the wrong facts given to us on the date of order and also late delivery. They have refused point blank to give us our deposit back even though i said we would spend it on another article. They say it is a non cancellable agreement and if we wish to do so they charge 30% of the total price.
Have you got any suggestions please?

August 25th, 2010Fred,
Bought an ‘Embrace’ fabric sofa and cuddle chair from these guys a couple of weeks ago and only saw the website after purchasing. I’m now really worried that it’s going to be cr@p. Has anyone else on here had bad experiences with fabric sofas from CSL? Most on here seem to be leather.
If there’s anything wrong with it on delivery do i have the right to reject it or am i best to accept it and then get on the phone to them to complain? Lukily i live about 5 minutes from the store so i’ll be down there regularly if there’s any problems aswell. Seems like they’re absolute crooks!

August 25th, 2010Hi there Col…….
To be honest … as we are on this website, we tell it as it is.
The fabric furniture from this tinpot company is usually fairly trouble free !.. that’s not to say we’ve never had any complaints because we’ve had loads, but in general they are far more reliable.
The only problems that you will have to watch out for when it arrives with you are the obvious faults, dirty marks, scuffs, stains etc. and if you do…. you have the right to REJECT IT AS NOT FIT FOR THE PURPOSE AND NOT WHAT YOU ORDERED.
If you accept delivery, sometime down the line you will have to look out for the colour coming off or colour changes and many other points you would associate with the quality not being long lasting or wearing, pile thinning and so on.
Other than that, sorry to say ‘you’ve been had’ by them, because if you’d looked around you could have found the identical items available outside of CSL… who buy these in, rename them and inflate the price considerably……..
But and we do hope this is you – you could be one of the lucky ones….
Regards
Fred

August 26th, 2010Welcome to our new and updated website, we hope that you’ll find something of interest and help to you, particularly if you have been thinking about or unfortunate enough to have just bought any item of furniture from those so called – SOFA SPECIALISTS …….we all see on Television making those ridiculous claims that their sofas will last longer than a marriage, how despicable is that?….then claiming to show their sofas looking just like new after 2 years, 4 years, 6 years and now 8 years.
Then the other daft claim of a FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE >- when and if you read their brochures or visit their online website – they then point out the exemptions to this 5 year period and basically that comes down to just ONE YEAR…..yes ONE YEAR .. AND AFTER THAT TIME (if your sofa has managed to last that long !) the guarantee has specific terms and conditions and relates basically just to the frame and suspension parts, the rest of your new sofa – the padding, the upholstery, the leather and virtually all else is NOT COVERED….
And here is when they exclude by claiming duty of care – no kids, no pets, no larking about, no cuddles on one seat …be very careful.
Your Duty of Care
As with any warranty or protection of this kind, in offering this service, we assume you’ll take proper care of your furniture as per your care instructions, normal use in a domestic environment and no abuse from pets, children or any other source.
So BEWARE WHEN THAT BRAIN WASHED SALESPERSON tells you all about this wonderful (conditional will NOT be mentioned) 5 Year Guarantee.
Here are the exact words from their own website:
Every structural component of your new sofas and chairs, including framework, joints, springs and suspension system, is covered comprehensively by CSL’s five year warranty. This means that, should any structural component of your furniture fail during the first five years, it will be repaired completely free of charge (subject to our terms and conditions).
Beware also about being bullied into buying this wonderful SOFASHIELD for another few hundred quid, the salespersons are under great pressure to sell this EXTRA TO YOU – IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE AN ADDITIONAL ‘SORT OF’ GUARANTEE – Check first on Company Listings – you’ll find that the very same Director is the boss of both Companies……Funny that !.. but not so when you experience problems – don’t be conned again.
We would also like to mention that we get people who complain about the advertisements this Company use, and comments such as ” using a breakdown of a marriage”… “as a disgusting comparison” against how long they claim !!.. they claim !… their sofas last, when and if you have time to read through almost a 1000 genuine letters contributed to this website – from over a million plus hits, you will see that the products they supply are sourced from the far and middle east – China being the site of most of their Leather sofas and they are in the opinion of most of our contributors of very poor quality.
In our opinion most marriages, even rocky ones!… last longer than any CSL sofas and the rocky ones compare well to the stuff they deliver which have been know to be ‘rockers’ rather than as they should be – stable furniture which actually sits down on the floor via the attached legs…… but if you have a complaint about their adverts – the right place to complain is the A.S.A. there is a direct link to them on the right hand side of this page.
We are not here to destroy this company – we have no aims to do so, we simply offer you – the general public the opportunity to have an insight into what you may be considering a good investment – furniture is meant to last and other than your house can be one of the biggest investments you will make inside of your home…….from our letters quite clearly if you are thinking about ‘investing’ in furniture – this company have some serious problems and we simply give you ‘food for thought’…..and true stories.
We have a number of direct links on the right hand side of the website to ‘Consumer Direct’ … a government body who advise you exactly what your rights are when you buy virtually anything new….Though I find there is something of a gap when it comes down to actually cancelling an order – you have your rights of course, but in the case of this Sofa Company make ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU READ THEIR SMALL PRINT - before you buy if you can …they have a clause which says they will charge you a percentage of the total cost for attempting to cancel an order. (Basically they say – YOU CAN’T )
The Advertising Standards Authority who specifically handle complaints from the public over any sort of advertisement that you find to be offensive, misleading, false or just plain daft….they will deal with your complaint and with a complete assurance of not disclosing who you are.
The F.S.A. are another body who deal with Financial matters, they are responsible for issuing licences to companies who offer any sort of financial packages which allows you to buy their goods on extended terms, “buy now – pay later” packages, “interest free for 12 months” and such like, if you use any of these methods to purchase goods – the law says that the financial institution is equally liable for the quality of the goods…..If there is any problem relating to buying your furniture using a finance package and then experience trouble, the F.S.A. would like to know all about it.
Many other useful links are there and are happy to make recommendation of any company who can prove the quality and standards of their products and after sales service to us…..
And if you wish to have any help FREE OF CHARGES…to resolve any problems you may have after buying from this company, we offer a personal contact service and guidance to get action and hopefully a resolution – Simply write to Fred on this website.

August 26th, 2010Recently had 2 leather sofas delivered within 1 hour of delivery we noticed the leather on 1 sofa seat was thinner, softer and had small marks contacted csl who in return sent a technician who claimed this was normal “a natural product” and that was final. We are 2 weeks down the line and are left with a crinkly loose looking seat.Very very disappointed as we thought we were buying from a sofa specialist.

August 27th, 2010Sorry Chris but you are yet another customer of this so called ‘sofa specialist’ who has found out the truth in a very painful way.
They cover matters like this in their very small print, and then tell you that as a simple customer – you know nothing about leather, they are a disgrace…but you now know that I guess.
You would think that when someone actually spreads a hide to cut out sections, that they would at least select pieces for the same area that matched wouldn’t you ?…
But no, they obviously don’t bother, simply because they do not care enough about any quality control other than checking an odd suite out of hundreds they receive on a very regular basis from China.
I’m sorry and can only suggest that you get tougher with them and tell them that it’s not acceptable to you, let us know please.
